Midsommar is absolutely, definitely not for everyone. This is nontraditional horror in plain daylight and delves deep into the discomfort of culture shock. It's slow burn and atmospheric - for people who appreciate subtlety and not for normal folks who get bored in the absence of constant action. See this if you're into psychological horror, if you like artistic movies layered with imagery, or if you're into challenging movies generally. This is my favorite movie of 2019.

Actions of the main characters make no sense. They seem to have lost all capability to think critically just for the sake of the plot. The plot by the way has no real twist and left me feeling unsatisfied. It was a long, mostly boring movie and I would not recommend it to anyone. It definitely doesn't fall under the category of a typical horror movie.

Definitely not for everyone. But if you liked the directors previous film (Hereditary), this will probably be up your alley. It's slightly similar to The Wicker Man (both make interesting use of a bear suit!), but much more cult focused. Not quite as good as Hereditary, but a fine movie nonetheless. The opening scene before the title is pretty gruesome in a real life sort of way. Also some VERY strong violence in the later parts of the movie; if that's not your thing, then try another movie.
