A middle-aged fisherman living with his wife and daughter on Greece’s northern border, who is drowning in debt, starts to smuggle migrants across the border lake in exchange for a hefty fee. A tragic incident strikes the family, pushing the three to face their own personal impasses and weaknesses.

The acclaimed debut feature from writer/director Asimina Proedrou, BEHIND THE HAYSTACKS had its world premiere at the Thessaloniki Film Festival where it won six awards including the FIPRESCI Prize and Special Mention in the Meet the Neighbors competition. The film went on to be Greece's 2024 official Oscar entry for Best International Feature.
