Following his divorce, Joel is reunited with his best friends from college; Charlie sets Joel up with Nadia.

Joel fails to persuade Charlie to take chemotherapy. Refusing to give up, he decides to rent a remote country house, buy black market chemotherapy drugs, enlisting the help of Tess to kidnap Charlie & administer the chemo.

After Charlie's attempted escape, Joel and Tess decide they need to keep a closer eye on him. Meanwhile the police launch an appeal to find the "missing man". Joel decides to visit Charlie's distraught wife Kira.

Joel continues his visits to Kira, and whilst comforting her he finds himself enjoying taking on Charlie's role in this ready-made family. Meanwhile, back at the house, Nadia is drawn to Charlie who convinces her sober up.

After Charlie's second escape attempt is thwarted, Joel and Tess decide to secure him behind bars in the cellar of the house. With Nadia gone, Joel's paranoia starts to spiral out of control.

Joel continues to spiral. Tess reminds him to focus on curing Charlie. Joel accidentally smashes the final vial of chemo in his drunken state. Their attempts to secure more drugs eventually tip off the police. (Final)
