About this movie

DOCTOR SLEEP DIRECTOR'S CUT features new and alternate/extended scenes not seen in theaters. DOCTOR SLEEP is the continuation of Danny Torrance’s story 40 years after the terrifying events of Stephen King’s The Shining. Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot. Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before—at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.

An amazing movie, a psychologically poignant story of redemption and transcendence of difficult circumstance. It was challenging to watch in original version, and I presume director's cut is even more challenging due to the graphic nature of some of the parts. The story is well told and the call backs to " The Shinning" are so unmistakable. I watched the prequel in preparation for this movie and I was not disappointed. In this movie, the focus shifts onto the larger view and the circumstance surrounding the events of the previous one. Seeing Danny come home and make friends with his inner demons brought tears to my eyes, as it resonates with my personal difficult circumstances. Depending on where you at, it might be a challenging movie to watch so be gentle with yourself. I highly recommend it nonetheless.

Any Stephen King adaptation is worth watching. But this is a strange combo of a Kuprik sequel based on a Stephen King original. Major disappointment if you read the book. Too many cuts and changes from the source material. Uncle dan, Billy and doc, changing Andi's age, zero mention of Silent Sarah. So much focus on the Overlook that the plot suffers.

Great film if you liked the shining. Can't watch this without watching that 1st in my opinion. Not a hardcore fan, so not going to nit pick minor details. Worth a rent easy. If you own The Shining and watched it more than once. Can't see why you wouldn't want to own this. For me 1 time watch maybe 2 times is good. Most suspense movies are like that for me.
