About this movie

As America stands on the brink of a second civil war, Lucy (Brittany Snow) steps off the subway and walks into a bloodbath on the streets of her Brooklyn neighbourhood of Bushwick. Unbeknown to the civilian population, Texas is attempting to secede from the United States and black-clad militia forces have descended upon New York City. Faced with a flurry of whizzing bullets and total destruction around every corner, Lucy takes shelter in the basement apartment of Stupe (Dave Bautista). A burly ex-Marine, he reluctantly helps her traverse the treacherous five-block stretch of Bushwick to reach the demilitarised zone. Immerse yourself in the pulse-pounding action as Lucy and Stupe fight local gangs, riots, and continued attacks from the invading soldiers, in their attempt to escape the city in this violent and provocative story of survival. 2016 Stupe Productions LLC. I'm glad I bought this when it was on sale and didn't pay full price. The trailer made it look quite interesting. You'd think by now I would learn that trailers are lies. . While the premise might have been interesting, the execution was poor. Nothing about it was particularly engaging, the acting was mediocre, the effects were average, some of the filming was just tedious - pointless long takes showing nothing of particular interest to the story, it felt like padding. . This film is listed as action-adventure, like the trailer, this is a lie. There was no energy or emotion in the action and as for adventure, let's just say this movie is a good cure for insomnia.

The ridiculous lengths the producers went to shoot long takes only serves to downgrade an already poor effort. Way too much energy is spent on trying to get continuity (in the form of stupidly long, cut-free scenes) instead of quality acting and effects. The actors are robotic, emotionless and stiff. And the plot - martial law as Texas annexes itself from the US - laughablly bad. A struggle to get through.

What an appalling storyline. I watched the whole film hoping for a redeeming ending, only to be very disappointed. I probably should give one star, but I'm i a good mood.
