I'm a big DC and Constantine fan, so my rating is based on that. HOWEVER, I write this review without bias. There will be mild SPOILERS, just as a forewarning. ============================================= The show was a little disjointing at first, especially because it replaces one of the main characters without explanation after the pilot. Matt Ryan claims in an interview that the producers found Liv's character to be less than challenging enough for Constantine, so they had to replace her with Zed, who clashes more often than not with our anti-hero. For me, this action took a little bit longer to develop some proper exposition and build character. I was not emotionally invested in Constantine or anyone else. That's not to say the exposition and the character building was bad - it was confusing to get through because of the change up of characters and takes away some of the focus on John. But by the end of episode 4, John's character is solidified, as we're able to understand his convictions. Many have said episode 4 really gives you the feels. Before watching it, I was doubting it, even the whole episode through. But it got to the end and it's as if everything immediately became more emotional. We were finally given some more perspective on the events that led to his deepest regret, while resolving issues in the present. Through this, we see him sacrifice everything to save lives, and we feel his pain, regardless of whether we agreed with his actions or not. That's what makes a good show. At that point, you should be hooked. If not, I don't recommend going further. If the faults of a low budget show affect your ability to enjoy it, then it's not for you. The writing is what you need to pay attention to, and if that's not your jam, don't waste your time. But if you're a fan of DC and Constantine, I'm confident you'll enjoy this show. DC has a certain style of writing *cough* DARK *cough* and this belongs within that world. You should also find universal similarities with the show Lucifer, like how angels freeze time as they visit the earth. From what I've researched, it does take place within the Arrowverse, like Lucifer, which was confirmed in the recent Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. So DC fans, welcome, and have fun!

You'll never get anything close to the intensity of the book onto network TV, at least not in the states, but take this show as a sanitised more family-friendly version of Constantine and it kind of works. It's certainly one of the better dramas on air at the moment.

Here's ma two cents. Caution Spoilers.......Constantine is another Demons vs Angels with Human stuck in the middle type of show. The protagonist (Constantine) uses all of his knowledge, spells and tricks to try and save people either from themselves or the nasties that go bump in the night or Midnight. I wouldn't call him a Hero in the traditional sense of Hero, he does what is needed to try and get the job done and then drowns his sorrows afterwards. This show isn't like the Flash, Arrow, Avengers etc where there are huge fight scenes to determine the outcome, not that there isn't any fight scenes at all; it really isn't that type of show. I found this show a very nice change of pace from the usual Hero type TV shows and would recommend this show to anyone who enjoys the Supernatural genre. It is a shame this show was only one season, I would have really liked to see where they would have went for season 2. I kinda blame whom ever the show advertisers were. Here the show is already over and I only noticed it when Google play suggested it to me... props Google play recommender.
