The chaotic Ditte and her big sister, the overly sensible Sigrid, travel to Malta with their mother, Lise, to celebrate her 60th birthday. Lise has just been abandoned by her husband and the two sisters do not quite agree on how to get their unhappy mother out of the dumps again. The holiday turns into an absurd love triangle as Ditte and Sigrid stubbornly fight over Lise's love and attention amid charter life, jealousy, family patterns, lies, disco – and a dexterous bartender named Antonio.
