The Venus Twilight Experiment
In 2004 and 2012 a so-called Transit of Venus occurred, when planet Venus passed across the disk of the Sun as seen from the Earth. Transits of Venus occur approximately every 100 years, in pairs separated by 8 year. These observations lead to the first accurate determine the distance from the Earth to the Sun and thus dimension of the Solar System.
