Seeking to stop an assassin from sullying her sword style, instructor Kaoru Kamiya confronts a katana-carrying man who says he is merely a wanderer.

Despite the Kamiya Kasshin-ryu's name being cleared, Kaoru’s dojo remains deserted. Kenshin responds in an unexpected way when a boy pickpockets him.

Just as Yahiko faces certain death at the hands of his oppressors, Kenshin rescues him. Later, Kenshin provides him with a way to defend himself.

When some drunk activists start a restaurant ruckus by throwing a bottle at Kenshin’s head, a skilled fighter steps up to put them in their place.

Kenshin reaches the location where Kaoru is being held hostage and begins battling Jin-e, who then uses a skill that prevents Kaoru from breathing.

While gambling with Kenshin, Sanosuke learns that a friend of his has died from an opium overdose. A woman suddenly appears, pursued by swordsmen.

After Sanosuke and Kenshin face a fire-breathing foe, Beshimi fires a poisoned dart at Megumi — but Yahiko leaps in front of the projectile.

Although his friends accept Megumi, Sanosuke still bears a grudge against her. Han'nya suddenly appears and forces Megumi to meet with Kanryu.
