Description
An endearing coming-of-age drama set in 1920s Stockholm, The Slingshot follows the adventures of 10-year-old Roland Schütt (Jesper Salén), the son of a Jewish mother, Zipa (Basia Frydman), and a socialist father, Fritiof (Stellan Skarsgård). Living in a society that considers his father's politics to be treason and his mother's religion blasphemy, the boy encounters ceaseless bullying and prejudice from his schoolmates and teachers. A magnet for comically painful mishaps of all kinds, Roland endures all these hardships by shutting himself away with his inventions, one of which is a super slingshot. And like that slingshot, Roland springs back again and again from each setback, growing from each experience, until, in his typically ingenious way, he ultimately turns the tables on his oppressors.
