In her feature film debut, America Ferrera stars as Ana, a first-generation Mexican-American from East L.A., who struggles to strike a balance between her mainstream ambitions of attending college and her traditional cultural heritage--as personified by Ana's needy mother, who wants the girl to work at the family's sewing factory.
