When the fun-loving Johnny Case (Cary Grant) is engaged to marry socialite Julia Seton (Doris Nolan), even though her black sheep sister, Linda (Katharine Hepburn), and too-tipsy brother, Ned (Lew Ayres), like him, his lack of social standing has their father concerned. Expecting him to join the family business, Julia is scandalized by Johnny's plans for a carefree holiday abroad. Although Linda is also in love with Johnny, she still tries to patch things up between him and Julia. Put off by the plans for a business-like honeymoon, Johnny asks Julia to run away. Yet, once Linda gets her sister to confess that she doesn't really love him, she gladly offers to follow Johnny anywhere he wants to go.
