Cary Elwes stars as Robin of Loxley, the handsome medieval smoothie who comes home early from the Crusades to defend England against a hostile takeover. The culprits with their eyes on the throne are the pampered and royally neurotic Prince John (Richard Lewis) and his co-villain, the thoroughly rotten Mervyn, Sheriff of Rottingham (Roger Rees). Aided by his band of merry men, Robin wrests power away from the Prince, brings humiliation upon the despicable Sheriff, and finds the keys-to the heart of the fair maid Marian (Amy Yasbeck) as well as to her Everlast chastity belt. Producer/director Mel Brooks (Blazing Saddles, The Producers) retains the classic story elements while adding to the medieval mix his own beloved brand of rollicking wit, contemporary craziness and spectacular slapstick.
