Letters from Iwo Jima

The story of the Japanese forces who held the island of Iwo Jima for 36 days during the last stages of the World War II. Although the island was made of nothing but rock and volcanoes, it had a powerful strategic value for both sides. General Tadamichi is in charge of the Japanese forces, and understands his opponents well. He leads his men to a battle against the US forces, knowing that they couldn't possibly win.
