Oliver Kite's Fawley

Flora and fauna flourish in the shadow of a Hampshire oil refinery.

1968 23 mins

Overview

A study of the flora and fauna flourishing in the shadow of the refinery bestriding the Hampshire village of Fawley. Presented by celebrity naturalist Oliver Kite, this attractively contemplative film was sponsored by Esso. It falls into a long tradition of oil films juxtaposing nature and industry (with a public relations payoff). The most famous is Robert Flaherty’s 1948 American film Louisiana Story, but there are many fine UK examples.
