Season 1 episodes (22)

1 One
9/30/01
When a multi-million dollar diamond heist leaves two murdered victims in its wake -- along with the body of one of the slain robbers -- curious Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) chase down blind alleys, unaware that their quarry is a cold-blooded and manipulative master criminal (guest star Jake Weber). Eventually, the cops suspect that their killer has imposed his girlfriend (guest star Michelle Hicks) on his gang and ponder if the murderous thieves have a mob connection that would permit them to quickly cash in on such a large haul of stones. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
2 Art
10/7/01
Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) sort through a palette of colorful characters when they probe the slayings of a museum curator and an art authenticator, and they soon discover evidence of copied masterpieces that makes an arrogant Austrian dealer their prime suspect -- but the key hinges on finding the elusive forger. Meanwhile, as Goren reveals a surprising knowledge of art -- and the German language -- the investigators figure that the best way to find a forger is to enlist the aid of another forger. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
3 Smothered
10/14/01
When a pregnant woman who was struggling to stay clean from drugs is found slain, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) search for her ex-junkie boyfriend (guest star Geoffrey Naufflts) whose tattered life is dominated by his wealthy socialite mother (guest star Kathleen Chalfant). While Captain Deakins (Jamey Sheridan) wants to hand off the seemingly open-and-shut case to the homicide cops, Goren protests that killing a pregnant woman deserves a more hands-on investigation -- and the detective soon finds a sticky web that extends to many dirty hands. Courtney B. Vance also stars.
4 The Faithful
10/17/01
When a Catholic church sexton (guest star Stephen McKinley Henderson) is found murdered in the sanctuary, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) search for a thieving drug addict (guest star Alex Feldman) who works there, but their investigation grows dicey when it appears that the victim was skimming church funds -- and diverting them to the suspect. A further complication arises when the police make another grim discovery that implicates other important church officials in a widening scandal. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
5 Jones
10/21/01
Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) suddenly find themselves awash in petite dead women who are found naked and abandoned just days apart, and their suspicions point to an abusive, cocaine-addled lawyer (guest star Griffin Dunne, "After Hours"). While the cops believe the high-strung attorney has been cleaning house by murdering all of his girlfriends at once, they know that he has one more unknown squeeze remaining on his list -- and his disbelieving wife (guest star Karen Young) will not help. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
6 The Extra Man
10/28/01
When a man is found beaten to death, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) learn that the deceased was a European con man who swindled investors -- and romanced their foolish wives -- but further evidence reveals the victim might also have suffered from mistaken identity. As the cops press on, Goren enters a war of wills when he tries to lure out the killer before he disappears by appealing to his considerable ego.
7 Poison
11/11/01
When a mysterious "angel of death" poisons a series of hospital victims with cyanide, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) suspect a nurse (guest star Susan Bruce) who fits the typical profile -- but when others fall dead outside the care facility, the investigators must widen their search. Even when the cops discover the source to be tainted, over-the-counter painkillers, the victims continue to pile up, and they can't gain any traction with their case until they find a motive -- or at least a source of the killer substance. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
8 The Pardoner's Tale
11/18/01
When an investigative reporter and his fiancee are gunned down, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) hope to learn what the murder victim had intended to expose, but when they close in on the shooter, the cops discover dotted lines that connect to organized crime -- and possibly the governor's office. While an uneasy Captain Deakins (Jamey Sheridan) chafes at the prospect of sniffing around the power elite, Goren and Eames plunge full speed ahead and focus on key evidence that a bribe was paid at the state's highest level. Courtney B. Vance also stars.
9 The Good Doctor
11/25/01
When the philandering, drug-abusing wife of an arrogant plastic surgeon (guest star Robert Knepper) disappears, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) suspect the doctor's earnest efforts to find her are bogus -- especially when they find he has a lover (guest star Penny Balfour) of his own. But even when the body of a decomposed woman washes ashore weeks later, the cops can't crack the doc's airtight defense -- and their only hope might be to turn his ego against him. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star. Donna Hanover guest-stars as a defense attorney.
10 Enemy Within
12/9/01
When an arson fire kills an internationally renowned banker (guest star George Martin) in his imposing new high rise, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) probe the victim's dysfunctional family, including his young trophy wife (guest star Laila Robins) and failure-prone son (guest star David Aaron Baker) -- both of whom had reasons to want the older man dead. As they begin to stitch together a case, the cops find a piece of tawdry evidence in a bank vault that points them in a new direction. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
11 The Third Horseman
1/6/02
When a pro-life loner (guest star Robert Stanton) stalks and shoots a doctor, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) begin tracking him through his contacts and when they find a second gun, they reach a chilling conclusion -- their suspect has not acquired his final target. But while prosecuting attorney Carver (Courtney B. Vance) worries about turning a murder case into a litmus test on abortion before a jury, Goren tries to find out the real reason for the gunman's rage. Jamey Sheridan also stars.
12 Crazy
1/13/02
When a prominent doctor is murdered at his son's Bar Mitzvah, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) first suspect the victim's estranged wife but their probe widens when evidence involves a warped forensic psychiatrist (guest star Michael Gross) who wanted to impress the dead man's pretty in-law (guest star Stephanie Seymour, "Pollock"). However, the attempted prosecution turns thorny when the primary suspect craftily makes an unexpected plea. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
13 Insider
1/27/02
When the wealthy father of a teenaged party girl (guest star Aleksa Palladino) is found stabbed to death, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) suspect a mysterious nightclub owner (guest star Adam Trese) whose unsavory reputation and connection to the mob aroused the victim's fears. However, the cop investigators are stymied when they bump up against an immovable object after they discover the surprising hidden identity of the slick club proprietor. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
14 Homo Homini Lupus
3/3/02
When an embezzling executive's (guest star James Colby) wife and two daughters are kidnapped by a loan shark as collateral on a huge debt, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) are frustrated by his lack of cooperation -- even once the hostages are released after one of the girls is sexually assaulted. Stonewalled by the frightened family, the investigators must backtrack quickly to the brutal and thuggish enforcer (guest star Ritchie Coster) who actually captured them -- and plans more mayhem for another indebted family. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
15 Semi-Professional
3/10/02
When the girlfriend of a married, high-profile judge (guest star Michael Murphy, "Nashville") is murdered, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) can't link him to the slaying but instead find a ratty little ex-con (guest star Bruce MacVittie) -- with links to another rival judge (guest star George DiCenzo) -- as their most probable suspect. However, even when the cops arrest him, the likely killer won't cooperate, forcing Goren and Eames to devise an elaborate ruse to lure out another man who was equally responsible. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
16 Phantom
3/17/02
When a recently paroled bank robber is slain, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) check out the victim's sister (guest star Cara Buono), a social-climbing wannabe with a romantic connection to a man (guest star Michael Emerson) who is living a double life as a bogus United Nations economist. But as the cops close in, Goren learns of the man's desperate need to gain the approval of his children -- and he races to prevent even more murders. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
17 Seizure
3/31/02
When a bisexual woman is slain, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) note similarities between an incarcerated serial killer's (guest star Jack Gwaltney) methods -- prompting them to suspect a mousy human-behavior researcher (guest star Jenny Bacon) might have fallen under his spell and committed the copycat murder. However, while D.A. Carver (Courtney B. Vance) stalls to prevent the release of the imprisoned man, the detectives discover a hitch in their theory that might point to a most unlikely suspect. Jamey Sheridan also stars.
18 Yesterday
4/14/02
When the sale of an old family house reveals the body of a young woman missing for 20 years buried underneath, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) seek out the drug-addicted brother (guest star Danton Stone) who used to live there -- but their instincts tell them that the dull boy must have had a smarter partner-in-crime. The cops trace the suspect's association with an old college chum (guest star Jim True-Frost) who is now a successful and control-oriented businessman known to suddenly disappear for a while from his family. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
19 Maledictus
4/21/02
When the daughter (guest star Alla Kliouka) of a jailed Russian mob boss is found decapitated, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) suspect the murderous hit was a result of her tattletale book -- but further investigation reveals that one of her previous private school classmates had an even more sordid reason to execute her. They discover that an uptight, self-tortured real estate magnate (guest star David Thornton) might have feared exposure of his own dark childhood secrets and kinky alter ego if a second bestseller had been published. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance star.
20 Badge
4/28/02
The neat forensics of a well-planned multiple murder of a city auditor and his family point Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) toward law enforcement personnel when they learn that the numbers-cruncher was investigating the illegal public employee practice of "double-dipping" -- or getting paid two salaries at once. Evidence points toward a handful of former cops, particularly a shady, ambitious safety officer (guest star Viola Randolph) with a need for big money to keep her kids in private school. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
21 Faith
4/28/02
The mysterious murder of a wealthy publisher perplexes Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) but their key link is Erica, an orphaned and elusive teenaged author whose Dickensian tragedies have spawned best-selling books and profitable charities -- but no one except for a few shady characters can say they've ever met "Erica." Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance star.
22 Tuxedo Hill
5/10/02

Meanwhile, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) wonder why the exec remains mum about the suspected phony accounting -- until they discover that the eyewitness who conveniently cleared her of the murder rap is related to a key bigwig at the company. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.

About this show

Created and executive produced by Emmy winning producer Dick Wolf, Law & Order: Criminal Intent veers from the traditional format by taking viewers into the minds of its criminals. The police procedural mystery series integrates a unique psychological component allowing viewers an up close and personal look into the criminal justice system. Detective Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio, "Men in Black", "The Cell"), is an exceptionally bright homicide investigator with well-honed instincts that match up favorably with his criminal quarry. His partner, Detective Eames (Kathryn Erbe, "Oz"), is a strong woman whose stylish edge meshes well in tandem with Goren. Overseeing the Major Case Squad is their Commanding Officer, Captain Deakins (Jamey Sheridan, "Shannon's Deal"), a competent and ambitious political animal who knows how to survive and thrive behind the scenes. All of them often butt heads with no-nonsense AssistantDistrict Attorney Ron Carver (Courtney B. Vance, "The Tuskegee Airmen", "The Preacher's Wife"), who is a stickler for the crucial legal details.

Vincent D'onofrio was great. But they should have had him alone and not with K.E.Then they started to mess around with it,like it was not worthy of an actor such as D'onofrios caliber. He is a great actor in Indy film's.But not in the big block busters. He owns it,when he's in small pitcher's. Dick Wolf should have stopped at L&O, Period.✡🎻

I have watched all the episodes more than once D'Onofrio and Erbe are great character actors. I wish I could see them on the big screen as well. I've seen Vincent in small but important roles in movies but not Ms Erbe. CI is well written for the most part especially with Bobby's old nemesis, who is also a good actor. Sadly,I do not recall her name. Why they tried Noth and Goldblum to attract a larger audience is beyond me. Boring!
