About this show

When a tragedy puts an the end to her short-lived career as a superhero, Jessica settles in NYC and opens her own detective agency, called Alias Investigations, which seems to be called into cases involving people who have special abilities. Suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome, Jessica wants to do good, but her primary interest isn't in saving the world, it's saving her apartment and getting through each day. Based on a graphic novel intended for adults, this is not a superhero story for the kids.

A well done show, and one that deserves 5 stars, but at this current time I've only given it 4 because season 2 & 3 are missing.

After a few episodes I knew this was going to be one of my favorite superhero shows. Unlike the majority of the most recent batch of superhero shows it actually has believable characters that are almost all flawed in some way. The acting and script are both good, and I like the fact that there is an ongoing story arc with only one supervillain rather than the episodic pop-up villains that most shows in the genre go for. The villain's power is truly terrifying for once, and the writers aren't lacking in imagination as to what diabolical shenanigans someone with that power might indulge in, or how hard he would be to defeat. JJ is obviously a touch more adult than Arrow or The Flash, so if you like your superheros/heroines PG-13 then you'd best stick to the latter.
