About this show

Ross Poldark returns to England after fighting in the American Revolution. His family and friends thought he was dead. The woman he hoped to marry is now engaged to his cousin. His father is dead, and the property he has inherited has been allowed to deteriorate. It is the late 1700s in Cornwall, England. This is a family drama, but is also about the challenges and conflicts between the rich and the poor. It is a time when fishermen are not catching much fish, tin and copper mines are closing down because prices are too low, but the price of food and rents are high. Ross faces the challenge of making his land productive, caring for the tenants who rely on him, and trying to win back the woman he loved - or finding a reason to live without her.

Doesn't rate vs the original TV series. Sure. It's widescreen HD, but that's all it's got going for it. Targeted at Millennial kiddult girls, its acting is wooden & its lead fits his role like a cheeseburger in a Michelin 5 Star. Although far from the only period credibility destroying abberation, the male lead's contrived constant after five shadow culivated in 2016 'beard' style may have the girls swooning, but it & a modern vernacular phrase riddled script destroys period suspension of disbelief.

Enjoyable watching for those that like period pieces, and certainly well made... But for me it falls short on substance. Nothing particularly new or poignant - it felt bland when compared with many other series in the same genre.

I love this show. Never a dull moment. There has been some really emotional moments that were very sad. I love Ross; not only is he good looking; he fights for what he believes in even if it can almost cost him his life. What an honorable man, they don't make men like that anymore!
