About this show

Gumball's world is pretty run-of-the-mill. He's chased around school by a T-Rex. He has a friend named Anton who's a piece of toast. He's got a crush on Penny, a peanut with antlers. His dad is a 6'4" bunny. His mom works at a Rainbow Factory. And his brother is a goldfish named Darwin. Yup, everything looks perfectly normal here.

I usually hear people talk about Steven Universe or Adventure Time when it comes to modern day Cartoon Network. And I love those shows but if I had to pick one cartoon network show that I like the most it would be The Amazing World of Gumball. This show rivals Bojack Horseman for one of my favorite animated shows of all time. This show nowadays is very unique. Which is funny because it didn't start out that way. Season 1 of Gumball at it's core is pretty much a regular animated sitcom with a unique cast of characters and art style and though I am a fan of the more satirical humor of the later seasons the first season provides time to focus on the characters and around the middle of season 2 the show starts focusing more on plot, humor, and messages. Gumball is a very "human" show. Despite the characters being a cast of anthropomorphic animals, robots, puppets, CGI creatures, Bananas, etc. and yes I believe that is the joke. Characters in this show are realistic and relatable. And it manages to be clever and cynical while also having a lot of heartwarming moments. Overall, It's just fun to watch.

Back in 2016 and 2017 I used to be obsessed with this show, but recently I've came back to watch to newer episodes, and it wasn't the same. I've recently stopped watching Gumball a lot because it's different. I have lots of Gumball merchandise, I mean i still support the show. But ever since season 5 it hasn't been the same. And season 6 was really bad. Season 1 and 2 were the best, but season 5 and 6 weren't that good. I still love the show, but I try to avoid watching the newer episodes.

It's amazing to see the work they put into this. All the characters are rejected concepts for other TV shows that never aired, or commercials that were never released, so you could say that they recycled all the characters. They only used this to their advantage though, instead of letting it limit them, they adjusted to the wacky ideas that were mashed together. As far as I know, it's one of the only shows to mix computer animation and cartooning, and given the universe it is able to pull it off very well. While they still hide funny jokes and memes in the script that you would only understand if you knew what it was referencing, the show isn't vulgar - it doesn't need to be. It's genuinely funny without making crude jokes or trying to appeal to an adult audience. There are multiple instances where the creators gave a wink and a nod to fan art and fan fictions, showing that they were interested in what their community had to say . You can tell that everyone making this show just outright had a good time with it.
