Twelve-year-old Gon wants to become a Hunter. In order to do so, he fulfills a promise to his foster mother Mito and departs to take the Hunter Exam. On his journey he meets Leorio and Kurapika, who also wish to become Hunters.

Gon, Leorio and Kurapika have arrived in the town where the Hunter Exam is being held. Heeding the advice of the ship's captain, they take a shortcut to the exam site, but an old woman stops them on their way. If the three cannot answer her question, they will be immediately disqualified from the Exam.

Escorted by the Kiriko, the trio finally arrives at the exam site and finds it already full of participants like Tonpa, an exam veteran; Hisoka, who is surrounded in an ominous aura; Hanzo, the talkative ninja; and Killua, the young skateboarder.

5 Hisoka x Is x Sneaky

Misty wetlands await the participants as they emerge from the long tunnel. Visibility is poor and various monsters lie in wait. Gon and Killua run straight ahead, but Leorio and Kurapika run towards the back and come across Hisoka surrounded by the other participants.

6 An x Unexpected x Task

After the confrontation with Hisoka, Gon and the others reach the site for the Second Phase safely. The proctors for the Second Phase are Menchi and Buhara. Their test consists of preparing a dish that will satisfy the palate of Gourmet Hunters. Will the struggling participants be able to produce a winning dish?

7 Showdown x On x The Airship

Gon and the others pass the Second Phase and board an airship that will take them to the site of the Third Phase. Gon and Killua explore the airship and encounter Netero, who challenges them to a simple game. If they are able to steal the ball he is holding, both Gon and Killua will earn the right to become Hunters.

8 Decision x By x Majority?

The airship arrives at the site of the Third Phase, on top of Trick Tower. To pass, entrants must reach the base of the tower within 72 hours. Gon, Killua, Kurapika and Leorio somehow make it inside the tower, but five members must be present in order to proceed!

9 Beware x Of x Prisoners

Gon and his friends need to win three out of four rounds. For the second round, Gon chooses the challenge in which the person whose candle goes out first loses, but finds his candle has been tampered with. Next, Kurapika is up against the serial killer Majitani, but soon discovers a spider tattoo„the mark of the Phantom Troupe„on Majitani's backƒ

Gon and Kurapika record wins, leaving them with 2 wins and 1 loss. However, Majitani has only lost consciousness, which their opponents contend is not a win. Leorio loses patience as Kurapika refuses to deliver the final blow. An uneasy mood settles as time continues to tick away.

Leorio confidently chooses rock-paper-scissors as his game, but loses to his opponent's psychological tactics. With the score at 2 wins, 2 losses, the final do-or-die match is entrusted to Killua.

The five come upon two gates. The first is a long, difficult path that all five can travel. The other is an easy path where only three can pass. Once again, they must vote and decide by majority rule. Which path will they choose?

This show was very captivating and fun to watch the first few arcs however once I reached the Chimera ant arc I got very disappointed. There were so many pointless episodes that didn't go hand in hand with the story and the main characters barely got any screen time. If the creators kept developing the main characters and focus less on side characters that no one is interested in, this show could of been a 4 or 5 star.

I payed for it and it keeps saying to update a app idno witch one Google play doesn't need to be updated don't get me wrong I love the show it's just this problem

Love this show so much. The characters are very unique and lovable (even the villains :) Each arc brings something new to the series and really helps with developing the story and its characters. The animation is great and the music is as well. The only downfall is the narration because you will get lost sometimes if you dont pay attention to it. Overall, this anime holds a special place in my heart and would recommend anyone to watch it. Hopefully they bring it back one day!
