About this show

Emmy Award winner Tina Fey writes, executive-produces and stars as Liz Lemon in "30 Rock," a workplace comedy where the workplace exists behind-the-scenes of a live variety show. The show is told through the comedic voice of Fey and features Alec Baldwin as Jack Donaghy, the brash new network executive who has turned the show upside down with his meddling ways. The single Lemon is living every comedy writer's dream -- head writer on a demanding, live TV program in New York City. Her life is jolted when Donaghy interferes with her show, and bullies Lemon into convincing Tracy Jordan -- a wild and unpredictable movie star -- to join the cast. Now Lemon must manage the unmanageable so that the show -- and her dream -- can go on.

This is not going to be everyones cup of tea and I am certain that it will offend many people, as I am sure it is intended too. I have watched and loved every single episode of 30 Rock, it is intelligent and well written. Tina Fey's writing talent is outstanding and her characters are heart warming three dimensional, believable and become parts of the family. You have to watch the episodes more than once to catch all the jokes, many are visual. For me, Fey manages to make a sitcom that not only delivers on its jokes, its characters but also on its ability to point out how stupid and ridiculous we can all be on a variety of issues. Although very US-centric the humor is not lost and translates well across the water to the UK, OK I didn't get all the cultural references, but there is enough going on that these (as far as I know) did not spoil my enjoyment of the show as a whole or as individual episodes. 5 stars does not allow me to mark it highly enough, the box set would easily make it into my top 10 and would easily be on the short list of things I would take to a desert island (Along with a DVD player and a power source).

An extremely funny show with a superbly surreal and intelligent sense of humour as well as daft and slap-stick! One of my favourites, this show easily makes it into my all-time top 10! It may not be everyones cup of tea but the jokes are solid as the show points fun, mainly at American social stereotypes and the NBC television network due to the array of cast members employed on the fictional TV show it is set around. It also pokes fun at things we all love and/or hate such as celebrities, egotism, relationships and politics. But the show also makes great use of any and all hyper-exaggerated social and racial steryotypes to a very funny degree, no-one is above reproach from the writers! Needless to say it will offend some more 'sensitive' types but you must not be, and must try to see the lighter side of these jokes, as they are intended and you will enjoy it! It IS a comedy show so it is designed to be based 'loosely' on reality but it does live very much on the edge and is as close to the line as possible without hitting you in the face. If you don't find this show hilarious then you probably only have your fun sitting up at night organising your string collection!

Personally this is my favourite sitcom of all time. It's a real comfort watch but doesn't sacrifice on intelligent humour. I want to go to there.
