When a rollercizing poetry professor is arrested for the murder of his wife, a bright eyed lawyer goes to the quirky town of East Peck, South Carolina defend his first big case. / Josh and his team discover DNA that could lead to another suspect. Meanwhile, Josh is concerned about Larry's lack of emotion and his strange obsession with a skate wrench.

After coming up bust on a match to the DNA found in Larry's (John Lithgow) bedroom, Josh (Nicholas D'Agosto) and his team discover a "sex print" on the wall that leads to a shocking new suspect. Meanwhile, Josh gets sloppy and inadvertently gives a piece of damning evidence to the Prosecution. Jayma Mays, Sherri Shepherd, Steven Boyer and Krysta Rodriguez also star.

When the new suspect turns up in a coma, Josh (Nicholas D'Agosto) becomes sidetracked trying to solve this crime, eventually becoming a suspect himself. Meanwhile, prosecutor Carol Anne Keane (Jayma Mays) presents Margaret Henderson's autopsy report that reveals Larry's (John Lithgow) wife was struck by a blunt object, leading to a frantic search for the murder weapon. A new piece of evidence emerges that leads Josh (Nicholas D'Agosto) an unlikely, and dangerous, new suspect: Larry's (John Lithgow) brotherinlaw, Jeremiah Jefferson Davis. As Josh (Nicholas D'Agosto) prepares for trial, his boss, Mr. Mankiewicz comes down from New York to check up on him and reveals a gigantic hole in Josh's case. Meanwhile, Larry (John Lithgow), unsettled by his rift with his daughter and Josh's boss being in town, takes matters into his own hands, with deadly consequences.
