From Emmy Award-winning executive producers of "The Office" comes a new mockumentary that looks at the exciting world of local government. The documentary cameras follow Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) a mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana. In an attempt to beautify her town Leslie takes on what should be a fairly simple project: help local nurse Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones) turn an abandoned construction pit into a community park. Leslie is alternately helped and undermined by her colleague, Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari), who cheerfully exploits his government position for personal gain. She is also thwarted by her boss Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) who is philosophically opposed to government in any form. Helping Leslie and Ann navigate the Pawnee bureaucracy is charismatic city planner Mark Brendanawicz (Paul Schneider), whose outlook has been soured by 15 years of public service. If they can pull it off, Leslie hopes that she also will have inspired her uninterested college intern April (Aubrey Plaza) and April's whole generation - all the while moving one step closer to her ultimate goal: becoming the first female president of the United States.

Leslie (Amy Poehler) and her committee go door-to-door to build support for her park project and recruit members for an upcoming town hall meeting, but their mission doesn't go as smoothly as Leslie hopes. Leslie (Amy Poehler) looks forward to picking a new Miss Pawnee, but has to battle the other judges, who have a very different standard of "the ideal woman." After building an entire playground in one day, Leslie gets frustrated at the (lack of) progress with the pit, and takes some advice from Mark (Paul Schneider) to cut through the red tape. Leslie (Amy Poehler) is upset when she learns the library department wants to take over her lot. Making matters worse, the library is run by Ron's (Nick Offerman) ex-wife Tammy (played by Offerman's real-life wife Megan Mullally), who still has a powerful emotional hold on him. After one of the murals ("The Spirit of Pawnee") in City Hall is defaced, Leslie (Amy Poehler) and the Parks Department compete to come up with a new design. Leslie (Amy Poehler), Ben (Adam Scott), and Andy (Chris Pratt) head to San Francisco for a National Parks Conference. Tom (Aziz Ansari) opens his restaurant, Ron (Nick Offerman) has another run-in with his ex-wife Tammy 2 (Special Guest Megan Mullalley), Andy lives a rock and roll fantasy, and Leslie makes a huge decision about her future.

Leslie launches a competition with tech company Gryzzl for a large parcel of land, which she wants to turn into a National Park. April and Andy try to regain their spontaneity. Ben is recognized at a Bicentennial gala, where Tom delivers a speech in his honor.

Leslie and Ron briefly put aside their feud to help old foe Jeremy Jamm escape the clutches of the diabolical Tammy 2. Ben vows to help April discover her true passion in life, while Andy and Tom travel to Chicago.

Leslie's team tries to strengthen her case that the Newport land should be turned into a National Park. Ron's team, fighting back, brings on a celebrity as a minority owner.

Donna and Joe tie the knot, while April attempts to keep the wedding running smoothly. Ron creates an awkward situation between Tom and Lucy. Jen Barkley (Special Guest Kathryn Hahn) arrives at Ben and Leslie's house with an interesting opportunity.

While Leslie and April take a business trip to Washington, April wrestles with her future. Back in Pawnee, Andy tries to find April the perfect job.

Leslie and Ben come under fire for participating in an old Pawnee tradition. April and Ron go on a scavenger hunt. Donna and Garry stroll down memory lane.

On the last episode of Andy's TV show, his friends wish him luck with whatever comes next.

Ben and April conduct a series of interviews, while Andy and Donna help Ron adjust to a life change.
