Down-at-heel musician Lucky Flynn has to drive his cherished piano from Sydney to Perth, but his plans are thrown into chaos when he has a collision with a teenage girl. He agrees to escort the injured teen to the nearest hospital, but soon comes to realise that won't be the last he'll be seeing of her.

Having lost his anxiety pills, Lucky is in a hurry to get to Port Augusta to see a doctor to renew his script. But when Meg claps eyes on a shining pink lake, she insists they stop the car to explore it.

Meg is beside her herself after losing her purse, leaving her and Lucky with no more money, as the highway patrol escalates its manhunt for two highly wanted persons.

Waiting for their ute to be repaired, Meg and Lucky join a campground party on the Great Australian Bight, but the night takes a nasty turn when Lucky discovers a suicide note.

When Lucky wakes to find Meg has taken off with his piano, he's ready to admit defeat. But after getting bitten by a snake, he has a vision of his mother who urges him to keep going.

Lucky decides to abandon his piano and take responsibility for Meg's welfare, but news about his mother sends him into a new spiral of despair.

After saying goodbye to Meg in Kalgoorlie, Lucky is arrested for the theft of the horse-float. But his problems only get worse when the horse-float owner decides to take justice into her own hands.

Arriving at the Flynn family home in Perth, Lucky gets a frosty reception from his brother. And Meg finally learns why the piano was so important.

About this show

When family outcast Lucky Flynn learns that his mother is dying, he decides to drive to the other side of Australia to see her, packing nothing but an upright piano for the journey. But his plans are soon turned upside down when he meets the runaway teenager Meg, who's dealing with some family demons of her own.

Best series I've seen in years. You'll be crying, then laughing two seconds later. Really interesting use of the "journeys" concept mostly done through its character development but doesn't lack anything in its imaginative storyline. Manages to cluster together a bunch of random and bizarre circumstances which cleverly tie in at the end without seeming farfetched nor too reaching. Reminds me a bit of Little Miss Sunshine, but with more familiar Aussie scenery, language, style and feel. Shows an honest and truthful glimpse of the "every" Australian's encounter of mental illness, adolescence, addiction, grief, loss of identity, and family estrangement, but without being obvious or overbearing. Leaves you with a bit more hope for humanity in showing you how far people go to do the smallest things for others, that really end up being the biggest things. And it's painfully conspicuous that it's not about the things at all. Tim is a star beyond words, as always. I had "Carry You" in my head for weeks. And Milly.. what an incredible character she embodied with perfection - somehow managing to encompass that one alternative quirky Australian teenage girl whom everyone recognises from their lives, yet still portray such a distinct character with a quixotic mind and overflowing with zany personality. Must binge!

Loved this... I don't watch much on TV, but this was lovely story telling done well.

My family loved it. It was funny, bitter sweet, and full of unexpected moments.
