London, 1908. The bold retailer, Harry Selfridge (Jeremy Piven), is assembling his great plans for the biggest and finest department store the world has ever seen at the 'dead Mr. Selfridge 47 end' of Oxford Street. Facing a frosty reception from the anti-American press, Harry runs into unexpected trouble when his business partner Waring suddenly pulls out of the project, which leaves the life of the project hanging in the balance. But Harry's luck is up when journalist Frank Edwards throws Harry a lifeline, offering to show new-to-town Harry around London and introduce him to the right people.

Selfridge's has now been open for a few months. The displays are still as dazzling and seductive as on opening day, and the staff are ready and poised for action. The only thing the store is missing...is customers! Lady Mae (Katherine Kelly) stops by the Selfridge house to see how Rose Selfridge (Frances O'Connor) and the family are settling in. Slightly disapproving of the fun-loving and energetic Selfridge children, Lady Mae needles Rose about being an outsider to London Society and about Harry's behaviour, and is shocked when Rose tells her she plans to visit the National Gallery, via the Underground!

Harry has a new idea: he wants to create a new Beauty Counter at the front of the store that sells perfume and even makeup -- much to the consternation of some of his staff. Agnes runs into trouble with Reg, whilst Victor is still interested in her. Both Lois and Henri spot the threat of an ascendant Ellen Love, and Agnes helps Henri develop the new house perfume. Lady Mae asks Harry for a favour, and also reveals to Rose the truth about Ellen and Harry's partnership - which spurs Rose to do something for herself.

Harry scores a massive coup when world-famous ballerina Anna Pavlova agrees to visit the store. Feeling coolness in Harry's affections, a disgruntled Ellen leans on Frank for support. Reg's violent tendencies reach breaking point when he crashes into the store at the worst of moments. Victor saves the day, and prevents George from getting into hot water in the loading bay. One of Harry's closest employees is caught stealing, and a formidable new Head of Fashion arrives. Rose and Roddy's friendship hits a surprising low when she reveals her true identity. Ellen is fired as the Spirit of Selfridges.

Harry revels in the display motorcar brought in for the store's new motoring merchandise. Roddy surprises Rose at home -- and young Beatrice sees him steal a kiss! Harry visits Agnes, persuading her back to the store. Victor and Agnes fall out on her return as they can no longer court, but Henri is particularly pleased to see her back. Lady Mae makes a play for Victor. Ellen tells Rose about her affair with Harry, whilst Beatrice lets slip about Rose and Roddy's kiss. Harry hits rock bottom, drinking and reliving a traumatic childhood memory as he drives into the night...

Harry is unconscious after his car accident - and he suffers more flashbacks to a specific moment in his childhood. The Selfridge family are in disarray by Harry's bedside. The store is gripped waiting for news when word arrives that Mrs Grove has died - big news for Miss Mardle. An impending Suffragette demonstration in the area forces the staff to pull together, and a grief-stricken Grove struggles to asks a confused Miss Mardle for some time apart. Whilst Victor and Lady Mae are having a secret affair, Agnes and Henri's friendship grows.

Literary giant and Spiritualist Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is in for a book signing when he persuades Harry to hold a séance in the store. Harry and Crabb work to deliver a valuable stock issue from the bank - with a little help from Lady Mae and Musker. Agnes is transferred to Fashion, Doris resolves to help an old friend, Miss Mardle is still agonising over Mr Grove, and Kitty has a secret admirer... Rosalie goes to her first society soiree with Lady Mae, and what's revealed in the séance forces Harry and Lois to have a major heart to heart.

The Selfridges' old friends Frank and Jennie Woolworth are in London and Harry smells competition. Harry wants to beat him at his own game and sets about having a mid-season sale when he realises he can't buy anything in his store for a threepenny piece. Things get awkward for Rose when she bumps into Roddy at Lady Mae's soiree; even more so when Rosalie takes a shine to him. Agnes and Henri's 'working' relationship steps up a gear and Miss Mardle is confused by Mr Grove's behaviour...

Man of the moment, Ernest Shackleton has been invited to the store by Harry to give a lecture. But Harry's rattled by news of the death of an ex-employee. Meanwhile, Rose is forced to tell Harry that Roddy is making a nuisance of himself but when Harry encounters him in the store, he's shocked by what Roddy tells him. Elsewhere, Grove and Doris console each other in their sadness. And Victor finally plucks up the courage to tell Lady Mae what he really thinks of her...

Harry's excitement about a 'royal' visitor to the store is tempered by an invitation to the first night of Ellen Love's play. Lady Mae insists that Rose attend -- it's not the done thing to refuse a royal invitation. Lois pleads with Rose that Harry needs her now more than ever and so she agrees, reluctantly, to help him. It's a decision that Harry and Rose are both going to regret. At the store, Henri has sad news for Agnes; Kitty lets Miss Mardle in on a shocking secret and Victor's decided to take matters with Agnes into his own hands.

After watching the first episode free I couldn't wait to watch the rest. It's a shame it's so expensive, you can buy the DVD for £10.

I loved Mr Selfridge I am gutted that it ended. I Loved the Series so much that I Bought the Complete Series on dvd, It's definately One of my favourite Period Dramas alongside Call the midwife, Downton Abbey and Home Fires.

Love this series. Every week it just gets better and better. Love the costumes and the drama, the character are brilliantly played by brilliant actors and actresses. Carry on the good work... Completely hooked... more more more!!!
