After reading the excellent book I was disappointed that this series had to be "Americanised" and not shown as it should have been as an Australian story. No doubt it's money and marketing. Disappointed that key story elements were changed and plot lines added. Relationships were changed to the detriment of the story and a key part of the ending was ignored by the series writer. Sadly dispite the very strong message about abuse some parts of the early episodes were pedestrian and played like Days of our Lives and were frankly boring in places. Some great performances however from the leading ladies but I am not sure why it got those awards. Disappointing series. Read the book it's much better!

Such a shame, with all the hype surrounding this series perhaps I expected too much. Of course it was no where near as good as the book but not for the usual reasons, that books are always far better. Some things were desperately lost in translation. Lets, for once mention the elephant in the room. This book was written by an Australian and set in Australia. Perhaps at least some of the reason it was not as good as it might of been was because of the gaping chasm in cultures. The original story was so well written, couldn't fault it, I doff my Akubra to you Leanne. The actors consummate. So what went so desperately wrong in the translation from book to screen play? Way too much to fully express here. Considering Kidman has already snavelled up the rights to 9 perfect strangers It is to be hoped that she introduces "Made up Story" to the nuances of Australian culture. That is of course, if she still recalls what they might be after so long away. Thanks for reading thus far.
