About this movie

Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) writes, produces and makes his directorial debut with this timeless supernatural fantasy based on Mark Helprin's best-selling novel. Set in a mythic New York City and spanning more than a century, it is a story of miracles, crossed destinies and the age-old battle between good and evil. Colin Farrell plays a turn-of-the-century Irish thief who encounters a terminally ill heiress while robbing her house. Falling irrevocably in love with her, his only option is to discover a way to stop time and bring her back from death. In addition to the sweeping, romantic story, Akiva Goldsman's passion project features a remarkable roster of acting talent including Downton Abbey's Jessica Brown Findlay and Oscar® winners Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind), William Hurt (Kiss of the Spider Woman), Eva Marie Saint (On the Waterfront) and Russell Crowe (Gladiator).

This was a terrible movie. The only redeeming factor was Will Smith as the devil, which was a nice surprise seeing as though we didn't even know he was in it. Complete waste of time. If I could give zero stars I would. 2 hours of my life I will never get back.

Too little time to evolve the story- there are just blocks of film that make the it too fantastic. I watched it twice and ended up hating it. However, I plan on reading the book again because the story IS that good.

I, for one, rather enjoyed this movie. I'm not one that has to have every little thing explained, a movie like this is for you to use your imagination on. I do admit since I write fantasy and read quite a lot of it, that it was not hard to recognize the demon in Russell Crowe and Will Smith as Lucifer. I was a bit surprise toward the end with the little girl, Abby. I caught on rather quick when she had a fit and then she was the girl he was drawing, right down to the street light that was the moon. People, if this movie was beyond you to enjoy, try watching more like this or read more fantasy. It was a good movie.
