About this movie

Gene Wilder ("Blazing Saddles," "Young Frankenstein") stars in this magical, musical fantasy for the young, and the young at heart. The mysterious candy maker extraordinaire Willy Wonka hides a Golden Ticket inside five of his famous candy bars. The kids who find them are invited on a grand tour of the wondrous, wacky Wonka factory, and a chance for an even grander prize -- if they can resist temptation. The delightful musical score includes the hit song "The Candyman." From Roald Dahl's classic novel, produced by David Wolper ("Roots," "The Thorn Birds") and nominated for an Academy Award. Absolutely love this movie. Roald Dahl might have hated this, along with all the other film adaptations of his novels, but it's a really magical retelling that is both funny and wonderful with great performances from the cast of children and Gene Wilder. Definitely my preference over the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp interpretation.

Read the book (several times) as a child, Roald Dahl was such a huge influence on many of our lives. Enjoyed the Tim Burton remake but this will always be the best film version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 😊 R.I.P. GW 🎩
