About this movie

With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayed has lost all hope. After years of reckless, destructive behavior, she makes a rash decision. With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone. WILD powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.

I was looking forward to this film thinking it'd be a great journey of discovery. I love hiking and watched it with a like minded friend...horrible. Unrealistic beginning. A plot that meanders more than her path, and the ending negates the rest of the movie. The worst part is some people may foolishly think they can go off in the wilderness with no experience and be fine. I like Reese Witherspoon, but not this.

Tired of Hollywood glorifying drug addicts. Terrible movie. Why not make films about how people live life right and work saving lives instead of dysfunctional people who finally decide to live like they should. I've had plenty of losses and a bad marriage but didn't turn to drugs and sex to ressolve my grief. Geez, we all overcome losses in healthy ways and don't need dysfunctional drug addicts to show us how.

I loved the book - it's one of my all time favorites. It even made me want to hike the PCT. I was wondering how this book could be a movie since a lot of it is spent with one character alone in her thoughts. I was not impressed with the voiceover to indicate the thoughts that are explained in much more depth in the book. While I love Reese Witherspoon as an actress, I do not think she was the right pick for this character. Overall I was sorely disappointed in this movie as a book-to-film.
