About this movie

The mission is clear. Get in. Get the general. Get out. Commandos charged with freeing a U.S. general from an Alpine fortress should also be told to trust nothing -- including the search-and-rescue orders just issued.

Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood go Where Eagles Dare in this twisty World War II thriller written by action master Alistair MacLean (The Guns of Navarone, Ice Station Zebra) and directed by Brian G. Hutton (Kelly's Heroes). Known for fiery dramatic roles, Burton ventures into the realm of movie pyrotechnics with dynamic efficiency. And Eastwood's cool-fire presence heightens one searing action sequence after another.

Fantastic action thriller based on "behind enemy lines" WWII; fictional of course but truly a good "what if?" The Plot is more the star of the film with Richard Burton & Clint Eastwood ( out of the desert western sand and into the German-Austrian snow) along for dramatic effect, with a fair supporting cast; Mary Ure is delightful on the eyes, for this guy flick. The acting isn't so much brilliant as it is exciting though Richard Burton does add some dramatic flair, as was his genius. All-in-all a great story and film guaranteed to keep you at the edge of your seat. Side note: if you're a movie buff, Neil McCarthy is in this who played Calabos in the 1981 Clash of The Titans. Never knew this until I just watched this now.

Richard Burton never made a bad movie and Clint Eastwood was a great bonus in this one. I have only one problem with this movie, the helicopter. No one had them during WWII, and that particular model was not in common use until the 1950's. Other than that, this was a good flick.

If you like nostalgic movies than this WWII picture is one of the best with its all-star cast, high adventure, and bold plot.
