Angela Bassett and Lawrence Fishburne do a great job in their roles as Ike and Tina Turner, but the script of the movie is flawed. The movie is loosely based on Tina's autobiography "I, Tina." A lot of the facts have been misconstrued. Tina had no control over the script so the writers had creative freedom to fabricate scenes, so while the film is entertaining, it doesn't accurately portrays the couple relationship. Tina herself said in 2018 that she only recently watched some of the film and that it was inaccurate.

One of my favourite music-biographical movies... A fantastically strong woman with a talented but ultimately violent man... Angela Bassett & Lawrence Fishburne are simply stellar! Awesome and horrible in the right way, and of course the music is incredibly powerful!

Not prepared for the emotional and physical performances of Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne, portraying Tina and Ike Turner respectively. The characters are complex, authentic and relatable. Costume design plays an integral role in as we follow Anna Mae’s journey to stardom and the changing landscape of music and pop culture. Complex, glamorous and ultimately triumphant.
