About this movie

Based on author Richelle Mead's bestselling series, VAMPIRE ACADEMY tells the legend of Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch of BEAUTIFUL CREATURES) and Lissa Dragomir (Lucy Fry), two 17-year-old girls who attend a hidden boarding school. Rose is a Dhampir, a half-vampire, who is training to be a guardian, learning how to kill immortal, evil vampires, Strigoi, and protect good vampires, Moroi. After uncovering a dark plot, she must sacrifice everything to protect her best friend, Lissa, a royal Moroi with a special power from those who intend to exploit her while fending off the blood-thirsty Strigoi who hunt her kind. Also starring Olga Kurylenko (QUANTUM OF SOLACE), Cameron Monaghan (TV's SHAMELESS), Sarah Hyland (TV's MODERN FAMILY), and Gabriel Byrne (THE USUAL SUSPECTS).

It took a lot of effort just to get through the end of the movie. I am normally not a harsh critic, but this movie generally was inconsistent and dull. The movie had extremely poor character development, which made the entire movie unbearable because of how inaccurate each character was compared to the book. The side jokes were cheesy and unecessary. The movie as a whole couldn't maintain fluid scenes and made everything jumbled and confusing. I have never been so disappointed with a movie.

I enjoyed this movie more than I expected. This is definitely a movie for fans of YA books (which I believe is the target audience for the books.) The two female main characters were interesting and fun and fairly realistic for teenagers. The vampire fights & hints of background lore made me want to know more. I actually picked up the ebook on sale after finishing the movie hoping it would expand upon things. So if you're looking for a goofy, yet fun movie give this one a try! You might be surprised.

But also if you've read the books you're not going to enjoy this movie very much! I don't feel personally that there was very much good acting. They did not do a very good job on casting the roles of Vallissa(spelling?) or Rose.. And especially Dmitri. I was definitely disappointed because this is one of my all time favorite books. Vampire Academy is an amazing series and if you haven't read the books I definitely urge you to... the movie, not so much!
