About this movie

VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS is the visually spectacular new adventure film from Luc Besson, the legendary director of The Professional, The Fifth Element and Lucy, based on the ground-breaking comic book series which inspired a generation of artists, writers and filmmakers. In the 28th century, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha—an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe. 2017 - Valerian SAS – TF1 Films Production

What a terrrible film. Awful acting skills from the 2 leads - she just pouts and frowns, he talks with too low a voice and does a poor job of acting-that's their parts summarised. A few good CGI effects, the rest very rough around the edges (think original "Wizard of Oz"). Teenage fodder and no more. Bad enough that I wasted time out of my life on this, worse that I paid for it.

This film deserves no stars! There are quite a few reasons why i disliked this movie. The lead actress was terrible, not strong enough acting skills to have a lead role. Her character came across as very unlikable and irritating. The love story between the two leads lacked chemistry, so I didn't really care for the will they wont they back and forth nonsense. The alien father being voiced by a woman was very bizarre and confusing. Not sure what the purpose of a male character being voiced by a female is suppose to represent? Rihanna brief cameo with the unnecessary pole dancing was peculiar and unsuitable for family viewing.

If you enjoy cgi visual effects then this is for you. However, The casting for this film is all wrong (particularly the lead Valerian) and the characters seem to change there motivation and feelings depending on what will best move the story forward. The story itself being pretty basic and nothing you haven't seen before in a sci fi film. It's ok for a easy to watch action film but definitely better out there.
