Negatives: Standard plot, sfx/animation can't replace live action, too many similarities to Avatar, cringe worthy Disneyish world building, underused actors, woeful characterisation. Positives: Some clever ideas, great casting, visually stunning. Enjoyable rubbish, worth watching twice. I like Luc Besson. But his director's eye is always better than his screenwriting eye. In this case, the slight plot didn't justify the huge cost of the visuals, which were unnecessarily extravagant. And cardboard characterisation, hard to care for anyone. Cut back on the visuals, or tell an epic story. I couldn't help but think this would have been a much better film at half the cost, better use of the actors and more live action. Over reliance on computer game animation is the bane of modern cinematography.

Firstly, I am a scientist, PhD etc., and also an amateur sci fi writer. This is quite simply the best sci fi film available on the planet right now. Period. I've watched it 3 times in the last 48 hours, there is so much detail that it is impossible to absorb it in the first watch. Dane and Cara are perfection, hot and precise is the best way to describe them both. The opening sequence, which has homages to Fifth Element, and is breathtaking in its vision and simplicity, sets the scene before immersing us in a spectacular paradise and the Pearls. The apolcolyse is broad backdrop to an adventure which begins in Big Market, and, frankly, after this scene, you will become so caught up that before you know it an hour has passed and Rhianna is giving you the greatest pole dance in the universe. I heard the reviews and green tomatoes ratings etc., and I knew, from then, that I wanted to wait until the DVD came out, I knew it would require several watches with the ability to pause and rewind to absorb. The reviewers who gave this a 50% rating or less do not know what they are talking about. To me this film is better than Avatar, and on par with Fifth Element. Enoy. Meylioni.

What a terrrible film. Awful acting skills from the 2 leads - she just pouts and frowns, he talks with too low a voice and does a poor job of acting-that's their parts summarised. A few good CGI effects, the rest very rough around the edges (think original "Wizard of Oz"). Teenage fodder and no more. Bad enough that I wasted time out of my life on this, worse that I paid for it.
