About this movie

In the 28th century, Valerian (DeHaan) and Laureline (Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha — an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence, and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.

This is a very pretty film. It is, however, not a very good film. It needs to have about half an hour trimmed and someone - anyone - else as the male lead. Rihanna (appearing as the shape-changing alien, Bubble) would have been a much better choice for male lead. If the CGI boys and girls can manage that for the Director's Cut I'll bump my rating to five stars.

Like most of Luc Besson's films, the story is very basic and kind of obvious; however, you don't watch Besson's films for the story, rather for the visual feast he presents you with. His direction obviously restrains the actors (even in 5th Element), but his attention to detail is amazing and you finish up feeling good about where he leads you. I was not disappointed; I'd watch it again.

Please give me my time and money back! I thought the concept looked interesting but I was mistaken. Yes it had pretty scenarios and diverse alien characters yet they all seemed a little "been there done that" .As for the "Actors" the storyline and delivery were stilted .In one particular scene you could made a drinking game out of Cara saying Valerian try it a decent shot of something should have you on your way to a more enjoyable evening than the viewing of this gem!
