About this movie

From Academy Award®-winning visionary Jordan Peele comes another original nightmare. Starring Oscar® winner Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave) and Winston Duke (Black Panther), an endearing American family is pitted against a terrifying and uncanny opponent: doppelgängers of themselves.

This movie was great, and I feel that it earned the hype around it. The sense of unease throughout, the frustration of being stalked from all sides with no clear motive or similarity of pattern, and the feeling of the family just running on empty the whole time and trying to draw upon strength and energy not there was not only clearly communicated, but almost palpable. The straight, visceral terror Ms. Nyong'o telegraphed kept me on the edge of my seat. The way she played Red was incredible; she is so versatile, and at first, I honestly wasn't quite sure that it was her because of how vividly different they were; it wasn't merely appearance, but the movements and physical behavior. The kids' performances were incredible; they remained so true to each character and I was very impressed. Maybe it was me, but the father didn't seem quite as fleshed out as the other characters; he came off (to me) as not quite as intelligent as the others, but he provided a few laughs which were perfectly apropos of his position in the family. This is one movie that I *will* be purchasing, and am so glad to have seen.

I wanted to enjoy this film but I couldn't get past the constantly misplaced humour, I found it hard to take the premise seriously the more the family made jokes. I still look forward to Peele's next film as he is a man with lots of ideas who's not afraid to make his audience think. US wasn't for me, but it's still worth a watch if you enjoy horror, I'd avoid if horror isn't usually your genre of choice.

So many critical reviews, most hating the story and find it necessary to have the entire thing explained to them. I found Us to be near perfect in it's acting, script, score and ambiance. It's a freaky movie, it doesn't make perfect sense but most horror films don't. Us is entertaining and different. To me this is a film you should not only rent but purchase.
