About this movie

Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie directs and produces this epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis "Louie" Zamperini (Jack O'Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived on a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII – only to be caught by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp. Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand's (Seabiscuit: An American Legend) enormously popular book, it's the inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit. This is definitely an amazing story. I am intrigued by the story of Louie Zamperini and I think everyone should know his story. Obviously though, this film is not half as good as the book. I had read the book and was looking well forward to the movie, but I must say , although it was still good, I was expecting it to be much better. Louie has an incredible tale to tell and this movie did not do it justice.I recommend watching Louie himself tell the story on YouTube and reading the book, but still, I would not ditch this movie.

Great characters. Angelina Jolie has created a master piece. This movie kept both my wife and I hooked all the way through and trust me that doesn't happen often. You'll grow to love the survivors and absolute loath the Japanese general. Amazing storyline!

So difficult to watch in places. Not because it's bad. But because of what the guys went through. I believe bits of the story could have been told better, more could have been shown, however what did get filmed was amazing. Hooked the whole way through, even with some tears.
