Triangle of Sadness

Refreshingly nuts. Had little idea about the plot or the (somewhat ham-fisted) themes going in. It spared no expense & the actors are all excellent. Östlund's impeccable & provocative style is a stimulating change from cookie-cutter movies. The story has three extended acts that are little tour de forces of their own. If you can stay with it through its 147 min runtime & be un-swayed by its ruthless irony and style, then I don't know what to tell you.

Entertaining, worth a watch! Östlund grapples with relevant ideas, shown most by the discussion between the Captain(American Marxist) and the Shitmonger(Russian Capitalist). One aspect of Östlund's movies I enjoy is he doesn't heavily favor one side of a debate(my fav part of Force Majeure is the ending where you can feel the hopelessness or tiredness of their marital victimization ping pong), instead he just let's the story unfold. However in ToS, that tactic fails to works as well as before.

Honestly, it’s sorta random and I don’t think it gets the point it’s trying to make across to the audience - not coherently. I see the filthy wealth and the philosophical ideas it spews via dialogue, the idea of survival and changing power roles based on skill, not everything is equal. It just didn’t work for me. It tries to make various statements in one movie. It would’ve been best if it focused on a couple and developed those. Acting is good. But I didn’t not like it.
