About this movie

Tolkien explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the "fellowship" apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.

There are so many facets to the genius that was Tolkien that it would take far longer than the two extended trilogies put back to back to properly do it justice. As it stands, it is a worthy film with a warmth and emotional depth rarely seen nowadays. Love, be it for his friends or for Edith is the blood that flows through this story. My only regret was that there was not enough language, plenty but not enough. I can't imagine what it must have been like to fight the great war and come out of it with a need to tell the world of the experience. This is what Tolkien really tried to convey. The mythical visions in the trenches were a beautiful illustration of that.

The story is ok, but not comprehensive really. Missing a lot of aspects tohow Tolkien lived on from his traums of the second world war and how the story benefitted him and his family. This movie rather seems like a sad attempt to earn money wothout thinking the movie through in the depths.

An excellent film that shows how Tolkien's TRUE autobiography formed, played out in real life, and was then committed to page by the Man himself. Sheer brilliance!
