About this movie

From the director of Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin comes an unfiltered, comedic look inside the life of an American family. After years of marriage, Pete (Paul Rudd) and Debbie (Leslie Mann) are approaching a milestone meltdown. As they try to balance romance, careers, parents and children in their own hilarious ways, they must also figure out how to enjoy the rest of their lives. Featuring Melissa McCarthy, Jason Segel, Megan Fox, John Lithgow and Albert Brooks, This Is 40 is a candid and heartwarming comedy about the challenges and rewards of marriage and parenthood in the modern age.

As so many people have written, an over long, self indulgent film about self absorbed, over privileged, ungrateful people. One particularly nasty episode was in the school principal's office where lying is portrayed as a smart thing to do. Trying to moralise about a gross out comedy is pretty pointless but not as pointless as this whole venture. And at the end ( I had skipped an hour) the characters agreed to not learn anything and revert to where they started. Stop making this kind of movie.

This could have been condensed down to an hour and a half and it would have been great. By the end I didn't even care what happened, I just wanted it to be over. Some really funny parts though. Shame.

So we watched it and it was funny at times but it definitively should not be in a comedy genre. It was more sad towards the last hour of the film than any other comedy have ever seen....
