giving 3 stars for the restored footage because it was A++ work. Unfortunately, The narration was really impersonal, would be more impactful if it were a silent film. the dialogue didnt match with what was being shown on screen most of the time, there's a reason other documentaries have narrators speaking instead of random snipets. Watch the interviews before each Band of Brothers episode if you want meaningful first hand accounts of War.

The movie started out at quite a slow pace. Veterans answered the same set of questions about enlisting in the army - repeated for what felt like 100 times. At 20 minutes I was falling asleep. The movie picked up after that as the soldiers described their actual experiences in the war. The visuals were quite impactful.

This documentary touched me in every way! To see the battle films, to hear the recollections of so many veterans made this 100th anniversary of WW I so amazing! Definitely will watch it again to see all the nuances I didn't catch the first time. Peter Jackson and his team did a phenomenal job in restoring these war films.
