About this movie

A battle of gigantic proportions is looming in the neon underground of New York City. The armies of the night number 100,000, they outnumber the police 5 to 1, and tonight they're after the Warriors - a street gang blamed unfairly for a rival gang leader's death. This contemporary action-adventure story takes place at night, underground, in the sub-culture of gang warfare that rages from Coney Island to Manhattan to the Bronx. Members of the Warriors fight for their lives, seek to survive in the urban jungle and learn the meaning of loyalty. This intense and stylized film is a dazzling achievement for cinematographer Andrew Laszlo.

This is my favorite movie of all time. It's the kind of movie that before streaming, if it came on prime time TV, and you were about to go out on a Friday night to the club, you stayed home and watched. Lot of people call it campy, but when you actually listen to what the film has to say, you really appreciate its strength and endurance. My favorite scene is when they finally catch the train to C.I. and then get off at the C.I. train station. Seeing that look on Mercy's face when she realizes everything that was lost to the streets is why this is a classic. The lost possibilities and the randomness of the circumstances people are born into is a critical part of this film, that you don't necessarily appreciate until you've watched it a few times. The film is well acted for its length, I mean you actually feel engaged with each character. The direction and writing is spot on in that as soon as the film begins its nonstop energy. The music and outfits transform you into another world. And the actor who played Masai was excellent and given he only had a few lines, his presence gave the film a sense of urgency. Again, well played by everyone involved. This film is well deserving of a cult following.

This movie is a classic and easily one of my favorite movies of all time. The storyline was well executed and was non stop action from start to finish. This movie was created in 1979 and it's still timeless. I hope they never remake this movie because I don't think anyone could ever come close to re-capturing the awesomeness that is this movie..

If you were born in the era of the release of this movie and you were a teenager...oh man then your part of a BEST generation thing for movie's like this. Plus the way of life in the late 70's and early 80's. No mtv...no stupid cell phone's and especially none of this crap now called gangster rap crap. It was plain jane as can be. Colloried pants chucks on your feet and a flannel to keep warm. I miss my era and all the folks that were there during my early teen years.Todays youth will never catch that magic
