I saw this at the AFI FEST and it blew me away. The violence isn't gratuitous but instead an integral part of the film. The Tribe is in sign language with no subtitles or voiceover, yet this does not in the least hinder one's ability to understand the signed dialogue. As a result, the film is most likely much easier to follow without the distraction of subtitles.

It didn't work for me like it seems to have for others. Perhaps a rewatch is in order...
