About this movie

An impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1950's, the film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Academy Award nominee BRAD PITT). Jack (played as an adult by Academy Award winner SEAN PENN) finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. Through Malick's signature imagery, we see how both brute nature and spiritual grace shape not only our lives as individuals and families, but all life. 2011 Cottonwood Pictures, LLC, All Rights Reserved.

Excessive and daft. Chastain is OK in a way; the rest is a barely watchable mess, like a 140min TV advertisement for some worthy cause that remains unclear(the prologue talks about Grace vs Nature: big dino/injured dino; mommy vs daddy - how deep). This film is probably to blame for Interstellar and Arrival. Three stars because it is possibly salvagable, though it's too full of itself to really care. Picture quality is excellent but sound is poor. NO SUBTITLES.

Hard to believe this won awards! It felt like Melick was just putting this out there for a laugh, to see what reaction he could get from critics just for throwing garbage stories together into a montage!

The weirdest thing I have ever seen, I know its all very symbolic and deep but I still found myself in mass confusion when dinosaurs came into the film.
