About this movie

Rodgers & Hammerstein's® cinematic treasure, "The Sound of Music" is the winner of five Academy Awards®, including Best Picture. In this true-life story, Julie Andrews lights up the screen as Maria, a spirited young Austrian woman who leaves the convent to become a governess for Captain von Trapp's (Christopher Plummer) seven unruly children. Her charm and songs soon win the hearts of the children -- and their father. But when Nazi Germany unites with Austria, Maria is forced to attempt a daring escape with her new family.

Oh man, this was my cinema 'Nam! I spent so long trying to avoid seeing the whole film - I could only wade through a wee bit of nuns, Nazis and nippers before caving in and watching something - anything! - else. Seeing all of it a few weeks back, on reappraisal it ain't that bad. Good stuff, more fun than I expected. For more, see the full review: bit.ly/SoundMusic1965

I watched this film when it was on at Christmas and have been hooked ever since! The film is glorious (even though it's in its 50th year). The score is incredible and they're amazing to sing along to. It's an instant classic and will never be forgotten. Julie and the entire cast are brilliant. "There will always be a need for musicals." - Julie Andrews 💞💫🎶
