About this movie

Academy Award nominee Laurence Fishburne, Brenton Thwaites, Olivia Cooke and Beau Knapp star in this mind-bending and suspenseful sci-fi thriller. Nic (Thwaites), his girlfriend Haley (Cooke) and his buddy Jonah (Knapp) take an unexpected detour from an idyllic cross-country road trip when they are contacted by a mysterious hacker who has gained entry into MIT's secured network. But after a rendezvous in an eerily remote area goes awry, Nic wakes to a living nightmare in an isolation unit. Interrogated by Dr. Wallace Damon (Fishburne), Nic soon realizes that the only way to decipher the past… is to escape the present. (Original Title - The Signal)

Waste of time....repeat with emphasis...huge waste of time. Laurence Fishburne gives a one dimensional performance. Wonder why he signed up for this...must have owed a favor to someone in Hollywood. Sad part is the premise was pretty good but everything was poorly executed including lots of nonsense and plot holes you'd have to accept (or excuse) if you are really pulling for the movie to be good. Don't waste your time.

It was really slow to start. The acting wasn't bad, but the general flow of the movie took a long time to get exciting. As the thriller part unfolds, it did intrigue me. However, as it continued it became more confusing than entertaining for me. The ending was more 'out there' than I personally like in a scifi movie; being one to prefer something that I deem more plausible. All and all I am not disappointed to have watched it, and for a younger viewer, I am sure they would rate it higher... to be fair.

I had high expectations (from all the hype) and I have a furious desire to keep watching indie scifi movies in hopes that they'll keep being able to make them. But that ending, peeps. That ending. I can't talk about it too much without spoilers, but I think you should take a gander and decide for yourself. The cast was uncommonly good, I will give them props.
