When wealthy businessman Oscar Kohlmeyer dies, he surprises his staff by leaving his entire fortune to his cat, Leo. His relatives, Victor and Paula Rigsby, are furious. They discover they are next in line for the cash, and if anything happens to Leo, the money is theirs. In addition to bequeathing Leo $5 million and his mansion, Oscar also arranged for his caretaker, Gus Barrett, and Gus’s family, Louise, Bart, and Veronica, to stay on to look after Leo and the mansion. While the Barretts and Leo become better acquainted, Oscar's greedy relatives plot to strip Leo of his rightful inheritance and throw the Barretts out in the cold.
