About this movie

Berlin, 1943. The Nazi regime has officially declared the capital of the Reich free of Jews. However a small number of Jews succeed in pulling off the unthinkable. They become invisible to the authorities. It was often pure luck and the carefree attitude of the youth that protect them from the dreaded clutches of the Gestapo. There was Cioma Schönhaus, who secretly forged passports, attempting to save the lives of dozens of other people in danger. Young Hanni Lévy dyed her hair blond to look Aryan, permitting her to live incognito. Eugen Friede distributed leaflets during the night as part of the resistance. By day he conceals himself in the home of German family, in a Hitler Youth uniform. And finally there was Ruth Gumpel who, disguised herself as a war widow. The Resistance tells the story of a largely unknown chapter of the Jewish resistance during the Nazi regime. The script is based on interviews of the survivors. Compassionate, harrowing, and full of unexpected humour, The Resistance is interspersed with interview excerpts and archival footage to create a tightly-knit, moving, and emotional ensemble drama.
