Visual poetry. // A thrilling, sometimes tense, sometimes simply a wonderfully beautiful combination of music and “watercolour” style artwork, this tale is one you will not forget. // The art style is wonderful and contributes to the natural landscape and environment beautifully. The music is always just right and really brings together the different elements. It’s used extremely effectively to convey different meanings, moods and themes. // The characters are wonderful and relatable. You can feel the emotion that each feels and their frustrations, longings, regrets and dreams. We all see some of us in them. The plot is gorgeous; a selkie-like story that really tugs on the heart strings. // The ending could’ve been happier but is was painfully beautiful and I have no regrets. The entire thing can even be seen as an allegory for life. //=// All in all these many elements culminated in a piece of visual poetry that had me tearing up for ten minutes. I know I’m a sucker for beautifully sad stories but if you don’t enjoy the whimsy of this film and shed at least a few tears... you should probably take an empathy test. // 10/10 would recommend.

it is not a bad film. there is definately a need to continously look at the screen because of the lack of dialogue and this creates a sense of bordem. for example, i was trying to keep looking at the screen in order to make sure i didnt miss anything but in the grand scheme of things, nothing really happened. if you're a fan of studio ghibli, like myself, do not expect much. however, for those who are more into simplistic visuals and enjoy "silent" films then definately check this out. overall a 3/5 for simple visuals and temporary emotional attachment to characters but it does not get a 5 because of execution and its slowpacing moments in the film.

Lovely story with breathtaking music and animation. It just shows you don't need words to tell a good story.
