About this movie

One man's search for his soul leads him on the ultimate journey. In his most spectacular adventure to date, acclaimed action superstar Jean-Claude Van Damme directs and stars in this exotic odyssey that takes him from the slums of New York to the mysterious Lost City of Tibet. Van Damme portrays a 1920s street criminal whose run from the police thrusts him into a forbidding realm of gun smugglers, pirates and an ancient, underworld martial arts competition. The legendary contest, known as the Ghan-gheng, pits the world's deadliest fighters against each other in a furious winner-take-all battle. Forced to compete, Van Damme faces the ultimate test of manhood where one wrong move could cost him not only the competition, but his life. Roger Moore co-stars in this spectacular epic that holds audiences spellbound with its ancient mystery, stunning scenery and thrilling action.

The action was good. That ... was about it. I had to read the subtitles to even know the villain's name. The villain never even said a word and was a generic villain and there were waaaaaaay too many instances of slow motion as if the spots that they were slowing down were good. One or two slow motion areas in a film is fine, but they did it at least five times, so the movie is over saturated with random slow motion and dropping the voice as a result. That leans toward a very BAD effect on the film. Even some of the fight scenes were mucked up by the bad use of slow motion. So, uh, suffice to say, I'm disappointed.

I've been.a fan of dammes long time. This just a rip off of his own movie Bloodsport, except trying to be more artsy fartsy about it. Only good thing was fight scenes...capoeira guy was awesome.

This movie is great! It's a fun fighting movie that takes itself too seriously, but has fun along the way. The pacing is great, the fighting is spectacular and spends time actually working the story while not falling into the typical montage trap (looking at you, Rocky). Definitely worth the watch!
